Estrogen Helps Men Fight Prostate Cancer Hormone

hormone therapy for prostate cancerThe growth of cells in prostate cancer may be stimulated by androgen, male sex hormones.  Main types of androgen, is testosteron which produced by testiscles or some by adrenal gland.

One of recent  prostate cancer treatment method is by using hormone therapy. This therapy involves the inhibition of testosterone for being use by the body or by reducing the production.

Prostate cancer can be treat with anti-androgen drugs such as nilutamide, bicalutamide and  flutamide. These drugs inhibit the use of testosterone by the body so that the testosterone will not reach the cancer cells. Anti-androgen drugs are available in tablet form, and usually in the consumption of one to three times a day.

Patient`s rejection of radical prostate cancer treatment can also be overcome with the treatment of  female hormone. The study reveal the secret to target specific tumor molecular estrogen response. Growth of prostate cancer usually associated with male hormones, namely androgens such as testosterone. But both men and women have a number of estrogens, female sex hormones.

Recent research shows that the biological pathways involving the estrogen can be used to fight prostate cancer. Estrogen binds specific receptors on the cell surface – biochemistry of molecules that trigger the effect when stimulated.

Research has shown that prostate cancers known to carry two estrogen receptors. One of them, estrogen receptor beta, which causes cancer cells to die when activated. Australian scientists are conducting research to develop a new drug that selectively target the estrogen receptor beta.

Professor Gail Risbridger, who lead this study on Monash University said that these drugs not only inhibit the growth of prostate cancer, but also kills cancer cells which is resistant to conventional treatment such as castration.
